Although, many pet trainers prefer to use a clicker, there are alot that use a word such as “yes”  the click of the clicker or the usage of a certain word is to “mark” a correct behavior.

For example, the dog jumps over the bar, when he completes, (as soon as you can, the faster the better) you would, if using a clicker, CLICK!  that marks the correct behavior but more importantly lets the dog know that there is a possible reward on the way.

So, when the dog hears the mark- CLICK they know they did that thing that gets them a reward.
